Lo studio della realtà, dei suoi fenomeni e tempi, è la chiave della ricerca dell'artista. Grazie alla formazione da architetto e ingegnere, i suoi lavori riflettono interessi multidisciplinari, scienza, filosofia, musica, letteratura. Il disegno ha il ruolo chiave nella progettazione delle opere, come strumento di sintesi e ragionamento.La sua multiforme produzione include media eterogenei (scultura, disegno, fotografia, video, installazioni), con cui l'artista analizza la complessa relazione uomo-natura. Una rielaborazione minimalista e complessa, che ridefinisce altresì gli strumenti di misurazione inventati dall'uomo, mappe astronomiche e geografiche, pendoli, figure geometriche, compassi.

The study of reality, through its phenomena and paces, is the cornerstone of Mortellaro's artistic research. Thanks to a training as an architect and engineer, his works combine interests in many disciplines - science, philosophy, music and literature. The drawing plays a central role in the works’ planning, being a aprivileged tool of synthesis and reasoning. The artist's production is heterogeneous, embracing different media (sculpture, drawing, photography, video and installation) in order to analyze the complex relationship between man and nature. A minimal and complex reworking that redefines also the technical tools of measurement invented by man, such as geographical and astronomical maps,pendulums, geometric figures and compasses.
