Experimentum Crucis, secondo atto, una continuità discontinua. Rispetto al 2022, molte new entries, ma non
cambiano natura e scopo della ricerca visiva, l’interrogativo che il soggetto pone all’oggetto, al mondo. O il mondo al
soggetto? Poco importa, perché l’artista è per natura da entrambe le parti, rappresenta se stesso nel mondo, nei
suoi oggetti, è padrone di sé e dell’altro da sé, fa tutt’uno del concetto e dell’oggetto, anzi materializza l’uno
nell’altro. In questo modo, opera sempre e soltanto entro l’universo del significato, della cultura, e alla cultura riporta
la natura, anzi riconosce la natura come un elemento della cultura, e ne trae logiche conseguenze. La prima è
l’infusione dell’universale nel particolare, l’espressione in ogni oggetto specifico e concreto di un concetto generale
e astratto.
Secondo, se l’oggetto rappresentato è qui e ora, ma incorporando il generale e l’astratto anche ovunque e per sempre, l’opera d’arte ha una pretesa di verità, rivendica molto più di una superficiale apparenza estetica e bellezza, e si costituisce come un’essenza, permanente e ubiqua. In questa mostra, insomma, vediamo, udiamo, tocchiamo, colori, forme, suoni, immagini, tessuti e tele dipinti, stampati, ricamati, foto, video, installazioni di effetti personali o pani di cemento, sfere metalliche, insegne al neon, ceramiche, vesti di carta o cartoline, che sono quello che sono e tutt’altro: linguaggio, pensiero, in quanto tali realtà extrasensoriali, nelle quali si materializza la verità proclamata o denunciata dall’artista...(altro in comunicati stampa)

Experimentum Crucis act two, between continuity and discontinuity. In 2023, many new entries, but the same
nature and goal of visual research, the same question asked for by the subject to the object, to the world. Or the
other other way around? No matter, because artists usually sit on both sides, they represent themselves within the
world and its objects, they are able to master the inner self and the outer self, making a whole of both concept and
the object, the one being materialized by the other. In so doing, artists work always within the universe of meaning,
of culture, and even bring back nature to culture, recognizing the first as a cultural element, and thereby deriving
two logical implications. First, the infusion of the universal within the specific, of a general, abstract concept within
each individual, material, object, or artwork.
Second, as the represented object is both here and now and anywhere and forever in that it embodies the general and the abstract, that object acquires a truth claim, going well beyond a superficial aesthetic beauty and attaining the status of a permanent and ubiquitous essence. Thus, through this show we are seeing, listening at, touching, colors, forms, sounds, images, painted, printed or embroidered canvases or fabrics, photographies, videos, installations of personal belongings or concrete bread pieces, iron and ceramic balls, paper clothes...all being what they are and a whole other: language, mind, extra-sensorial realities, materializations of the truth claimed by the artist...(more in press release)

Rosa Anna Musumeci
Dopo un ventennio di insegnamento, ha trascorso un periodo di formazione curatoriale a NYC e, tornata in Italia, ha fondato l'associazione culturale Arte Contemporanea, e diretto l'omonimo spazio di ricerca visiva a Catania dal 1996 al 2006, collaborando con istituzioni ed enti locali e nazionali, pubblici e privati, fra i quali il GAI. Successivamente, lavora come free lance a Parigi, in particolare con il Palais de Chaillot. Nel 2010, e fino al 2020, sposta l'attività a Bruxelles, organizzando una trentina di mostre personali e collettive presso la sua sede e l’IIC, nonchè in sinergia con la Thalie Foundation. Nel 2022, ottiene dalla città di Noto la basilica dell'Ex-Caserma Cassonello e inaugura con EXPERIMENTUM CRUCIS il primo di una serie di progetti culturali senza scopo di lucro in collaborazione con Philippe Terrier-Hermann.

After about 20 years of teaching, spent three years in NYC attending at her curatorial training. Back in Italy, founded the culural association Arte Contemporanea, and ran the homonymous center for visual research in Catania between 1996 and 2006. These 10 years were marked by close cooperation with local and national, private and public, institutions and organizations, namely the Young Italian Artists (GAI) foundation. Thereafter, has been a freelance in Paris, mainly at the Palais de Chaillot. In 2010, and up to 2020, ran a home gallery in Brussels, sponsoring a host of young artists through more than thirty solo and group shows, both at her venue and at the IIC, as well as in synergy with the Thalie Foundation. On behalf of the city of Noto, in 2022 started, with Philippe Terrier-Hermann, EXPERIMENTUM CRUCIS, the first edition of yearly, no-profit cultural projects to be held within the Basilique of the Ex-Caserma Cassonello.
Philippe Terrier Hermann
Dopo aver studiato fotografia alla School of the Art Institute di Chicago e alla Rijksakademie di Amsterdam, è stato in residenza a Roma (Villa Médicis). Dal 2000 espone il suo lavoro al Museum voor Fotografie di Anversa, alla Biennale di Sharjah negli Emirati Arabi Uniti, alla Biennale di Busan in Corea e a Villa Arson a Nizza, al De Appel di Amsterdam, al Centre Pompidou di Parigi. Il suo primo lungometraggio, The Rift, è stato presentato al festival Indie di Lisbona e a Hors Pistes a Parigi. Ha pubblicato sei libri.

After studying photography at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and the Rijksakademie in Amsterdam he was in residence in Rome (Villa Médicis). Since 2000, he shows his work at Museum voor Fotografie in Antwerp, Sharjah Biennal of U. A. E., Busan Biennal in Korea and Villa Arson in Nice, De Appel Amsterdam, Centre Pompidou in Paris. His first long feature movie, The Rift, has been shown at the Indie Lisboa film festival and Hors Pistes in Paris. He has published six books.
