PRISCILLA BECCARI

(San Marino  -  SM  1986)

Priscilla Beccari è un’artista poliedrica, che si esprime con il video, la scultura, istallazioni,
fotografia, performances, disegno e anche musica, insieme a Mono Siren, un duo sperimentale electrosynth. Nel 2017, ha rappresentato la Repubblica di San Marino alla Biennale di Venezia. Nel suo curriculum, numerose mostre personali e collettive a Parigi, Bruxelles (in particolare, presso la fondazione Bogossian), Mexico City, Lima.
Nell’opera in mostra, un cavaliere, il cavallo, il frustino e il cappello cadono...L’altezza vertiginosa e il grande formato della banda di carta magnificano la caduta e non lasciano dubbi su quello che sta accadendo. Un tema, peraltro, altre volte affrontato dall’artista, che ama porre i suoi soggetti in posizioni innaturali, anzi contro natura (poichè il cavaliere perde evidentemente terreno, e non domina più dall’alto del cavallo). Con questo, Beccari si prende gioco dei comuni criteri visivi, forse per denunciare una perdita di prospettiva della nostra sociatà. Eppure, il personaggio non appare turbato, e il cavallo sembra cavalcare  disinvoltamente, anziché precipitare. Caduta? Rovesciamento? Scivolamento nel sogno? O da uno stato all’altro? Liberazione?

Priscilla Beccari is a poliedric artist who works with video, sculpture, installations, photography,
performances, drawing and even music, as she cooperates with Mono Siren, an experimental electro synth duo. In 2017, she represented the Republic of San Marino atVenice Biennale. Her cv counts many solo and collective shows in Paris, Brussels, first and foremost at Bogossian foundation, Mexico City and Lima.
In the shown work, a knight, his horse, the whip, and the hat are falliing...The vertiginous height
and the large paper size emphasize the fall and don’t leave any doubt on what is passing on. Besides, it’s not the first time that Beccari deals  with the fall topic, and gives her subjects
unnatural, or even counter natural, postures (since the knight is loosing ground and no longer overcomes the horse). In so doing, the artist plays with our visual conventions, aiming
perhaps at denouncing our societies loss of perspective. And yet the subject doesn’t look troubled, and the horse even seems riding downhill. A fall? A reversal? The slipping into the dream? The passing from one state to the next? Or a liberation?
