Maurizio Pometti propone una ricognizione sulla memoria, non solo autobiografica o familiare. All’
inverso della fotografia, e degli illustri precedenti che mirano esclusivamente a cristallizzare un
qualche passato o esperienza personale, la sua narrazione sconfina spesso nell’anonimato o,
meglio, mimetizza l’identità dell’artista nell’interpretazione data ad oggetti disparati e dal contenuto rigorosamente simbolico. Una sovrapposizione di autore ed opera viene così veicolata da immagini manipolate, alternando
osservazione e trasfigurazione onirica ed evocando contraddittorie reazioni di riconoscimento e disconoscimento. La sospensione fra le due annulla realismo e irrealtà spaziali e temporali, e chiede allo spettatore di entrare e vivere esclusivamente nella dimensione attuale dell’opera. Debordando nell’ambiente dell’installazione, con i suoi segni e disegni sui muri circostanti, Pometti materializza questa esclusività annettendo il contesto fisico al testo artistico.

Maurizio Pometti proposes an inquiry about memory, not just of the autobiographic or
familiar kind. In contrast with photography, as well as the well known antecedents exclusively aiming at the crystallization of this or that personal past detail or experience, his narration borders on the anonymous or, to say it better, conceals the artist’s identity behind its interpretation of disparate and strictly symbolic objects. An author-work juxtaposition is thus brought about by manipulated images, switching
between the observation and the dreamlike transfiguration, and evoking contradictory
reaction of recognization and disavowal. The hanging between the two cancels both spatial and temporal realism and unreality, thus urging the visitors to enter and solely live within the actual dimension of the artwork. By spilling over on the installation environment with his marks and drawings on the surrounding walls, Pometti materializes this exclusiveness by annexing the physical context to the artistic text.
