Cutrufelli lavora esclusivamente a carboncino, una scelta che immette la rappresentazione in una dimensione di immobilità, solitudine, silenzio, che solo lo sfondo nero evoca senza attenuazioni. Né minacciosi né drammatici, questi effetti immergono piuttosto nelle profondità della coscienza, laddove sono riposti gli eventi più significativi della vita, incontri, perdite, successi, fallimenti…Un cammino verso il subconscio, in parte scientifico (psicoanalitico), in parte poetico, dal quale escono immagini che, seppure tratte da traumi e disastri, si protendono nella ricerca della verità, della permanenza serena dell’essere oltre l’effimero dell’esistere.

Cutrufelli only works by the chalk, a choice which imbues the representation with a dimension of stillness, solitude, silence, maximized by the black background. Neither threatening nor dramatic, these effects rather prompt the immersion in the consciousness’ depths, where men keep the most significant events of life, encounters, losses, successes, failures…A journey towards the subconscious, partly driven by a scientific (psychoanalytic) motion, partly by a poetic mood. Hence, images that, though often depicting traumas or disasters, stretch out toward the quest for truth, for the serene permanence of being beyond the transiency of the existing.
