Magnifici misteri è un video ipnotico, non narrativo, un inseguimento fra gente proveniente da tempi e luoghi diversi, i cui percorsi si sono per qualche tempo incrociati. Il lavoro riassume tre epoche e tre soggetti, due dei quali appartenenti al passato, a un momento della storia d’Italia e alla storia della famiglia dell’artista. Sullo sfondo, una storia vera, la requisizione di un cavallo, Stella, appartenente ai nonni, per mano di militari tedeschi in ritirata a fine luglio 1944. Ad ispirare Frapiccini sono state le tenaci ricerche di due zii, Alessio e Dario, che seguirono i tedeschi per 100 chilometri chiamando il cavallo, senza ottenere risposta. “Un gesto alla Saramago”, racconta Frapiccini, frutto di un movente affettivo, prima che necessario, che fornisce l’incipit e la temperatura emotiva di un intreccio tra storia ascoltata, immaginata e ripercorsa nel presente. Una trilogia di prospettive e tempi, che si dipana con i passi di vittime, carnefici, protagonisti, narratori e di una cavalla che si perse e “ritorna”, e nel suo incedere invita la storia a farsi poesia.

Magnificent Mysteries is a hypnotic video, without narration, a chase between people belonging to different times and places, who walked for a few moments through the same lands. It resumes three times and three different subjects, the first two belonging to the past, to a piece of the Italian history, and the history of the artist’s family. The background is a true story, the kidnapping by German soldiers retreating in late July 1944, of a horse, Stella, belonging to the family of her grandparents. The inspiration started from the extensive research that Frapiccini’s uncles, Alessio and Dario, did following the Germans through 100 km, calling the horse, in vain. “A gesture in Saramago’s guise, the artist says, arising out of an affective, unnecessary, drive. Whence, the incipit and the emotional temperature of an interlacing of heard, imagined, and retraced history. A trilogy of perspectives and times unraveling with the maneuvers of victims, butchers, protagonists, storytellers, as well as a horse that was lost and “comebacks”, and by its pace invites history to turn into poetry.
