4k video, color, sound, 13’30’’Elena Mazzi accompagna per mano lo spettatore nell’incubo della violenza di genere attraverso la bellezza straniante delle statue greco-romane dell’Antiquarium della Domus Grimani a Venezia. Il video inizia con inquadrature di particolari di interni come se quelle sale fossero ancora vissute mentre una voce narrante ci porta nell’intimità della persona che le abitava, o forse ancora le abita, quelle stanze. Il ritmo visivo cambia quando la camera comincia ad inquadrare particolari anatomici dei corpi e dei volti di uomini e donne dell’antichità, corpi restaurati, rimessi insieme, tagli e suture nel marmo, dettagli su mani dalle dita mozze, sequenze di gambe e corpi…attraversati da barbagli taglienti di luce naturale… Corpi che parlano di storie lontane, di relazioni amorose, di violenza, di mito, di saccheggio, di morte e di rinascita. La voce narrante racconta di stupri, di rapimenti e di dei violenti, maschili e femminili…Il testo seleziona miti in cui la violenza è il fulcro del racconto e li inserisce in una narrazione transtemporale che mette in relazione il passato mitologico con la contemporaneità, dimostrando come certe dinamiche comportamentali rimangano pur sempre invariate…Paola Ugolini

Elena Mazzi leads viewers into the nightmare of gender violence through the disorienting beauty of the Greek and Roman statues in the Antiquarium of Palazzo Grimani in Venice. The video begins by showing details of the interiors as if they were still inhabited, while a voiceover ushers us into the private world of the person who lived, or perhaps still lives, in those solitary rooms.The visual rhythm changes as the camera begins to show close-ups of the bodies and faces of these women and men from antiquity; bodies that have been restored, put back together, with breaks and mends in the marble; details of broken fingers; a series of legs and bodies;…with rays of natural light cutting in between… Bodies speaking of distant lands and times, of love, violence, myth, pillage, death, and rebirth. The voiceover tells stories of rape, of abduction, of violent beings, both male and female… The text was built by selecting myths in which violence plays a pivotal role, putting them into a broader narrative that ties this mythological past to the present and highlights how certain behavioral dynamics are still the same today...Paola Ugolini
